She opened a room in Koksayek in 2026 and teaches every lesson in it. Before that: a teacher training course in Kuala Lumpur, a year of living in English in the Maldives, a masters in languages, and more than two years with young learners.

In her own words
I started teaching because the lessons I sat through as a student were about textbooks, not about talking. Ten minutes of speaking in an hour is not a language class.
So we built the opposite. Small groups, every student speaking every lesson, and a teacher who knows what each of them is working towards.
How Airim got here
Four years of university, two months of teacher training in Kuala Lumpur, a year of speaking nothing but English in the Maldives, and two years of finding out what actually works with children.
Four years at university
A bachelor's degree and then a master's, in languages, English and German. Four years in total, which is where the grammar she never has to look up came from.

Manchester Language Centre, Kuala Lumpur
Two months of English teaching methodology at the Manchester Language Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Knowing a language and being able to teach it are different jobs, and this is the one that covers the second. The photographs further down this site, the ones with another school's branding, are from those years.

A year of speaking it, not studying it
A year working as a hostess in the Maldives, in English, all day, with guests from everywhere. It is the part of her training that no course provides and the reason her lessons are built around talking.

Two years with young learners
More than two years teaching children, which is a different craft from teaching adults. She is also a trained dancer, which turns out to be useful when a six year old has stopped listening.

What she is actually building
A chain of language centers, starting with this one room. The point of it is not the chain: it is that the people she grew up with can learn English at home and then go out into the world with it.

Airim in the classes she trained and taught in before the center. Not Koksayek, and never presented as it.
